Charles H. Moryken, 94, Tyrone RD 2, died Monday afternoon at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, Altoona.
He was born in Juniata, son of the late Andrew and Martha (Piech) Moryken. He married Sophia Melynk Nov. 15, 1947, at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Altoona. She died Nov. 7, 1985.
Surviving are a son, John (Lucy) and a granddaughter, Sarah, all of Hollidaysburg; a special friend, Elizabeth Hensel of Houtzdale; a brother, John of Tyrone RD 2; and a sister, Julia Jarkiewicz of Pittsburgh.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael; and sisters: Ann O'Dellick and Helen Bacza.
Mr. Moryken was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force from February 1942 to November 1945 and obtaining the rank of staff sergeant.
He retired in 1976 from Conrail as a machinist.
During his long retirement, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, social clubs and, most recently, participating in senior citizens events.
He was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society and participated in numerous social organizations, including the Golden Nuggets and the Unter Uns Society.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where Parastas will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. A divine liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at St. Mary's Ukranian Catholic Church, 2024 20th St., Altoona, with a service by Father Joseph Tamburro. Committal will be at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Altoona.
