CLARA LYNN SHANNON

March 20, 1932 — October 28, 2016

Clara Lynn Shannon, 84, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Friday at her residence.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William L. and Ellen Loretta (McDermitt) Freed. On Dec. 12, 1949, she married the love of her life, Melvin “John” Shannon, in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2005 after celebrating 57 years together.

Family was everything to her, and she was blessed with three sons: David (La Rell), Jack and Rodney (Kelly); two daughters: Donna (Dennis) Peterman and Connie (John) Partridge; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and four sisters: Lorraine Saylor, Marie Long, Deloris Myers and Marjorie Hood.

Clara's compassionate nature showed in the over 35 years that she served as a nurse aide, but her greatest love and passion were her grandchildren.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Asbury Lane United Methodist Church, Altoona, where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Pastor Vance Hart officiating. Arrangements are by Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona
