Gerald F. ‘Jerry’ Hoff, 86, of Altoona, was called home to his Creator on Tuesday evening surrounded by his loving family. He was born the youngest son of Clair Albert and Evelyn Catherine (Weamer) Hoff in the family home on Dutch Hill.
Jerry graduated Altoona Catholic High School in 1953. Following graduation, he served two years in the United States Army and was stationed in occupied Japan.
He married Barbara Mae Gearhart on May 20, 1961. Together, they raised four children in Juniata while Jerry worked for International Harvester and Allegheny Trucks Inc., and earned an associate’s degree in business administration from Penn State University, Altoona. He retired as the manager of Allegheny Trucks in 2000.
After Barbara’s passing in 2007, Jerry was reintroduced to Jeanne (Klotowski) Burkett, a fellow 1953 graduate of ACHS. The two were married on Nov. 28, 2009 and enjoyed 12 happy years together.
Jerry was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Bavarian Aid Society and Clan Galbraith. He was a long-suffering fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and a beloved friend, dad and grandfather.
In addition to Barbara, he was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Raymond and Clair.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jeanne; and four children: Richard (MaryAnn) of Murrysville, Michael (Elvira) of Crafton, Suzanne (Corey Little) of Pittsburgh and Dianne Homan (Travis) of Altoona. He dearly loved and was immensely proud of his eight grandchildren: Adam, Ethan, Evelyn, Madelyn, Katelyn, Samuel, Leah and Hannah. Also surviving are stepchildren: Michael Miller, David Miller, Wendy Burkett and Holly Fuller; six step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.
A private viewing will be held for the family on Sunday.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 14th Street and 5th Ave., Altoona by Father. L’ubomír J. Strecok.
Arrangements are by Stanley J. Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s name to the Bishop Guilfoyle Angel Fund, 2400 Pleasant Valley Blvd. Altoona, Pa. 16602 which provides tuition assistance for students.
