GUENTER 'ED' ILIAN

November 11, 1924 — June 26, 2011

Mr. Guenter "Ed" ILian, 86, of Antis Township died Sunday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Germany, son of the late Friedrich and the late Anna (Ahlers) ILian. He married Lillian Highduch on Sept. 24, 1966, in Whitestone, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; a nephew, Hank Berge; and many other nieces and nephews, Ed served in the Army during World War II as a sergeant, serving with the 796th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech High School and Academy of Aeronautics Tech School at LaGuardia Field. He retired from Fairchild Industries in Farmingdale, N.Y., where he was an aeronautical engineer and an aerospace engineer. Ed was a member of the Bellwood United Veterans Home Association. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011, 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona. Services will be led by the Rev. Richard Henry. Committal will be held at Alto-Reste Burial Park, Altoona.
