Helen T. Tomassetti, 94, of Hollidaysburg, died Monday evening with her family by her side at UPMC Altoona. Helen was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Romerowicz) Kocolowski.
She married Ernest Tomassetti on June 23, 1951, at Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2015, after 63 years of marriage.
Helen was the mother of Dennis (Yvonne), Terry (Kathy), Marcia (Richard) Smith, Pamela (Don) Hulbert, Walter (Connie) and James (Tracey). She was Grammy Helen to Emily (Neil) Caldwell, Stephanie (Patrick) Miller and Patrick (Corinne); Kailee, Allison and Patrick (Chelsea) Smith; Tony and Amy; and Nick, Jake, Christopher and Ben; nine great- grandchildren. She was also a Bonus Step-Gram to Tyler, Rachael, Douglas (Kelsey) and daughter, and Henry Hulbert.
She was predeceased by sisters: Cecelia Lockard, Blanche Munsch, Sophie Elvey and Stella Chislow; and a brother, Blaine.
A 1947 graduate of Altoona High School, Helen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Helen and Ernie enjoyed church festivals, baseball games and dancing. They loved their Catholic faith, attending daily Mass.
Proud of her Polish heritage, Helen was affectionately known as “The Pierogi Queen,” making them for family and friends. Helen’s greatest enjoyment was her family, especially every newborn child.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th Street, Altoona.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, with Father L'ubomír J. Strecok, celebrant and Monsignor Stanley Carson, concelebrant and homilist. Committal at Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery, Altoona.
