HILDA 'SHORTIE' FOWLER

Hilda “Shortie” Fowler 86, of Homers Gap, died Saturday afternoon at her residence. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Robert M. and L. Catherine (McFalls) Green. She married J. Robert Fowler on November 1, 1947 in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1979. Survived by one daughter: Marsha M. (Robert) Merrell with whom she resided, two sons: Douglas L. (Eileen) of Homers Gap, Robert C. (Sarah) of Dayton Beach, FL, 7 grandchildren: Robert C. Merrell Jr.; Jason Merrell; Jacqueline S. (Fowler) Zapotoczny; Kelley L. (Fowler) Becker; John W.H. Mentzer; Kimberly S. (Mentzer) Miller; Jeanna R. Mentzer; and 16 great grandchildren. She was a graduate of Altoona High School class of 1943 and a graduate from Altoona Hospital Nursing School class of 1946 where she worked as a nurse. Mrs. Fowler was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, in Pinecroft. Hilda volunteered for 35 years at American Red Cross and with the Home Nursing Nursing Agency. Hilda enjoyed playing bingo. At request of the deceased there will be no viewing.
