JACK E. PRINGLE

August 21, 1936 — January 9, 2012

Jack E. Pringle, 75, Altoona, died Monday evening at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Eugene H. Sr. and Adeline K. (Barger) Pringle.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan (Randy) Wombacher of Tyrone; a stepdaughter, Debra Beard (Paul) of Westover; four grandchildren: Brandon Pruznak, Dustin Pruznak, Danielle Chaplin and Katelyn Wombacher; two sisters: Patricia Young (Charles) of Tyrone and Mary McCracken (Fred) of Altoona; two brothers: Raymond (Verna Dukeman) of Altoona and Donald R. (Linda) of Philippi, W.Va.; and two sisters-in-law: Elsie Pringle and Helen Pringle.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgiana Cox; and two brothers: Eugene H. Jr. and Daniel F.
Jack was a 1954 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1987 graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce, where he received a B.S. in accounting. He served over 24 total years with the U.S. military, beginning with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, then the National Guard, and then serving with the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam Conflict. He received the following medals: Navy Unit Commendation, two Navy Good Conduct Medals, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with two loops, Air Force Longevity Service Award with a bronze oak leaf cluster, Battle Efficiency Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a bronze star and Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia, Republic of Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
Jack had been employed at Gus Stadler Store, Altoona Post Office, Boyer Candy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, YMCA and Hanover Shoe Store. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Bellwood American Legion Post 424, Bellwood United Veterans Home Association, Fort Apache VFW Post, James L. Noble VFW Post 3 where he also was quartermaster and bartender, Catholic War Veterans and Concordia Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 551 as a third-degree and fourth-degree Knight with the Bishop Garvey Assembly, and where he served as bartender and bookkeeper.
He enjoyed puzzles, bowling and bingo.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, and 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, followed by a memorial service (funeral service outside of Mass) at 3 p.m. Sunday, Father Aron M. Maghsoudi officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Door, c/o Pastor David Taylor, 521 Main St., Bellwood, PA 16617-1909.
