John J. Eckenrode, 77, of Altoona, died Tuesday at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph Calvin and Verna Marie (Meloy) Eckenrode.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Eckenrode and Nikole Lucas; grandsons, Kalob Lucas and Parker Lucas; ex-wife, Sharon Eckenrode; stepchildren: Jeff (Rose) Hornberger, Tim (Dawn) Hornberger and Mike Hornberger; two sisters, Elizabeth MacFarlane and Mary (Bill) Robb; and special nieces, Jeannette Shannon and Rose Mary Roub.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Marie (Joe) Roub and Patricia Rhinehart; a brother, Raymond Eckenrode; and stepdaughter, Wendy Hornberger.
He retired as a Maintenance Tech. for the City of Altoona Highway Department, Sign Shop.
John enjoyed spending time with his family and grand-dog, Murphy. He loved to have a good time and was known for his sense of humor.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
