JOHN HORON

John Horon Oct. 23, 1920 - March 6, 2011 John Horon, 90, formerly of Juniata, died Sunday afternoon at Valley View Home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John and Mary (Terleski) Horon. He married Helen Babiak on June 7, 1947, at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Altoona, and she preceded him in death on May 15, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Donna Harkless and husband, Ken; two sons: Robert and life partner, Kathy Madilia, and John F. and wife, Sally, all of Juniata; seven grandchildren: Chris Harkless, Jackie Marasco, Shalon Hench, Rob Horon, Johnny Horon, Taushya Milliron and Cory Horon; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Adeline Disabato of Altoona; and a special companion, Hazel Kauffman. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Bianconi and Anna Columbo; and a brother, Charles. John was a 30-year member and past president of Transport Workers Union Local 2017, a life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Marine Corps League. He was a previous candidate for the Pennsylvania state senate and was a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1981 as a car inspector from Conrail. John was a member of St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, watching football and politics. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where Parastas will be held during visitation. A Divine Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 21st Avenue and 20th Street, Altoona, by Father Jerry Koval. Committal will be in St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Altoona. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.krishfuneralhome.com.
