Joseph D. Pagliaro, 90, formerly Johnstown, McMurray and Altoona, died Saturday morning, Oct. 5, 2013, at UPMC Altoona. Born Aug. 29, 1923, in Johnstown, son of the late Michael and Isabella (DeFazio) Pagliaro. He married Frances Kravetz on Aug. 10, 1944, in Johnstown. Survived by his wife, Frances; daughters, Lorraine (Robert) Beck, Altoona; Patricia (Richard) Layton, Bradenton, Fla.; and Isabelle (Dennis) Gerber, Baltimore, Md.; son, Michael (Deena) Pagliaro, Alexandria, Va.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Nellie Aiello, Moorestown, N.J.; and Betty (Frank) Oxen, Johnstown. Joseph was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. A graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1941. Joseph was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, VFW Post 764 McMurray, Union Social Club in Johnstown and IAFF Local 463. He was a firefighter for the city of Johnstown for 37 years. Joe was a master carpenter, enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, Pa. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, One Cathedral Square, Altoona. Committal, Calvary Cemetery. The family request no flowers and kindly make contributions to the family for the charities that they choose.
