Kenneth J. Hofer, 87, Altoona, passed away Friday evening at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
He was born in St. Lawrence, son of the late Henry and Margaret (Kutruff) Hofer. He married Catherine B. (Elder) VanSickle on Oct. 20, 1994, in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine; three sons: Richard D. Hofer and wife, Becky, of Portage, Robert J. Hofer of Altoona and Paul J. VanSickle of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Christine M. VanSickle of Monterey, Calif: seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Eileen Forsythe of Altoona and Gloria Sellers of Duncansville; and his former wife, Mary Ann (Koeck) Hofer.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Hofer; daughter-in-law, Missy; and a grandson, Brock.
Ken was in the US Army during Korean serving with the 101 Airborne. He was a machine operator, employed by Butterick Co. Inc., retiring in 1994, after 38 years of service.
Mr. Hofer was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and Central Pa. Humane Society
Ken enjoyed hunting, carpentry, gardening and having a good conversation with people.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2700 Broad Ave., Altoona, Father James Dugan celebrant. A private inurnment will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Patton. Arrangements are by Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Elevator Fund, 2716 Broad Ave., Altoona, PA.
