Maurice 'Mickey' or 'Mick' Brannan

Maurice F. ‘Mick' or 'Mickey’ Brannan, 86, of Altoona, died peacefully Sunday evening at James E. Van Zandt VAMC after an extended illness.

Mick was born in Johnstown, the son of the late Faber and Rita (Donoughe) Brannan.

He graduated from Gallitzin High School.

Mick married Mary C. Anna on May 4, 1963 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Survived by his wife: Mary, son: Gregory S. (Barb) Brannan, three grandchildren: Sean (Tori) Montler; Jillian (Caleb) Szabo; and Ian Brannan (fiancé Kristen), two great grandchildren: Mackinley and Aliza Montler, brother: Patrick (Dolly) Brannan, son-in-law: Mike Montler, brother-in-law: Melvin (Patty) Anna, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Montler, his infant grandchildren twins: Daniel & Bridget Brannan, siblings: Tom, Leo, Frank, Edward, Jerry, Rosemarie Moyer, Elaine Dillon, Martha Misko, Sister Conleth Brannan SSJ.

Mick served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed at Sylvania and retired from Babcock Lumber.

Mick enjoyed reading (especially western books), gardening, woodworking, and watching the Steelers, Pirates and Penn State. He enjoyed going to the kids’ concerts and sporting events. He dedicated his free time volunteering at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was known for his quick wit and loved a good joke.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home, Inc., 1204 - 17th Street, Altoona.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Friday, October 24 at 10:00 AM by Father James Dugan. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests volunteering at your church or community in Mickey's memory or a donation to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
