Olga H. Lawruk, 91, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., formerly of Bellwood, passed away Friday afternoon, March 22, 2024, at Brunswick Health & Rehab Center, Ash, N.C. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Hnat and Rozalia (Brizitsky) Gural.
She married Walter Lawruk on June 7, 1952, at St. Mary Uknainian Catholic Church. Olga was married to Walter for 59 years before his passing on Nov. 21, 2013.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Pierre) Lachaussie of Ocean Isle Beach N.C.; two sons, Gerald (Hazel) of East Liberty, Ohio and Walter (Tracey) of York; seven grandchildren: Todd Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Corrine Lawruk, Corinna Teeter, Teresa Myers, Rebecca Smith and Courtney Lachaussie; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her three brothers: Charles, Joseph and Michael; and two sisters, Anne Nason and Mary Zapotoczny.
Olga attended Altoona High School, and was a former member of St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Altoona and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood.
Olga had a strong connection with her Ukrainian roots. She often made authentic cuisine such as halupki, haluski, and her famous perogies for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and canning. Olga was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024, atStanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, where a vigil for deceased will be held at 5:30 p.m.; and from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 623 E. Third St., Bellwood, where a funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. with Father Michael Pleva officiating.
