R. Joseph Morgan

July 7, 1936 — January 6, 2024

R. Joseph Morgan passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at UPMC Altoona.  He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harry and Mary (McCabe) Morgan.  The youngest of five children, he was preceded in death by brothers Harry (Hazel) Morgan and Robert Morgan; sisters Betty (John) Morgan II, and Patricia (Jack) Ingham. 

Mr. Morgan was an Altoona High School graduate; and attained a bachelor of science degree in education from Indiana State College.  He received a master of education and educational administration from Penn State University.

          After teaching and working at The Hancock Group, he retired to be a loving caregiver for his mother and sister.

          Mr. Morgan was an active member of his church, the Second Avenue Global Methodist, where he played the piano, organ and participated in the bell choir.  He served on the Staff/Parish Relations committee and Administrative Council.

          He loved family gatherings and enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews.  He is survived by John (Susan) Morgan III, Mary Sue (James) Richardson, David Morgan, Michael (Trenna) Morgan, Cathy (Wayne) Stapleton, Mike (Barbara) Morgan, Patrick Morgan, and Sherry (Daniel) Buck.

          At the request of the deceased, private services by Pastor Brian Sandell, will be held.  Memorial contributions can be made to The Second Avenue Global Methodist Church in Mr. Morgan’s name.
