Thomas D. Hetzel, 75, of Altoona, died Sunday at his daughter's residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Howard Eugene and Mary Gladys (Conley) Hetzel.
He married Marion Therese Reilly on July 30, 1966, at St. Patrick's in Newry. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1983.
Surviving are three daughters: Sylvia Rickabaugh (Stephen) of Hollidaysburg, Sena Kensinger of Altoona and Shannon Cameron (Clay) of Hollidaysburg; a sister, Wanda Welch; six grandchildren: Logan and Landon Kensinger, Miranda Wertz and Sela, Daniel and Cagney Cameron; and a great-granddaughter, Lucy Wertz.
In addition to his wife, Thomas was preceded in death by his siblings: Johnny, Ronald “Ronny;” and infant sister, Diane Hetzel.
Thomas was 1962 graduate from Altoona High School. He also attended GMC Technical School in Pittsburgh.
He served in the National Guard for six years.
Thomas was employed by SKF Industries in the grinding department, as a machine operator trainer and production assistant. He fondly remembered his co-workers and friends, Thomas Taylor and James Wombacher.
Thomas was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed the comradery of playing pool at the Blair Senior Center, drag racing and spending time with nature.
He attended Field of Harvest Church, Altoona.
At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or service. Inurnment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to Blair Senior Services Inc., 1320 12th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
