LEON J. ADAMIAK

May 28, 1947 — July 31, 2020

Leon J. Adamiak, 73, of Altoona, passed away Friday evening at UPMC Altoona, Palliative Care from complications of Huntington’s Disease.

Leon was born in Altoona, the son of the late Adam and Jennie D. (Garko) Adamiak.   He married Cindy L. Clark on November 23, 1976 at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church. Survived by his wife, Cindy: one daughter: Kelly Benton  husband Steve, one son: Matthew J., granddaughter, Madison Adamiak; one sister: Teresa M. Kucharik  and husband Joseph, one brother: John C. and wife Bonnie, sister-in-law, Karen & Dick Smith; Nephews, Jonathan, Kevin and niece Aimee Pirollo. He was preceded in death by his Infant son, Michael, and sister Joan Breen.

 Leon was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather to Madison, friend, and neighbor to all. Leon was a fan of Penn State, Pirates, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Leon was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Leon was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High school where he was president of his class. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with an Associate Degree in drafting and engineering. Leon retired from PennDot in 2003 with 35 years of service designing highways. He was also a freelance surveyor.

Leon battled a long fight with Huntington’s Disease.

A funeral mass will be on Saturday August 8, at 10;00am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 12th Ave and 20 Street Altoona, (with COVID – 19 restrictions in force, and wearing masks) by Msgr. Stanley Carson, officiating.

Committal will be at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Altoona.  In lieu of flowers, the family urges to make contributions to the Huntington's Disease Society of America.  505 Eighth Ave. Suite 9902, New York, NY 10018 https://hdsa.org.      

A special thank you to the nurses on Tower 10 and in Palliative Care at UPMC Altoona for their kindness and compassion.
