ROSS M HUNTER

December 17, 1941 — March 25, 2020

Ross M. Hunter, 78, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center.

He was born in Hastings, son of the late Ross M. and Georginna (Beach) Hunter.

Surviving are four children: Connie Webb, Melissa Hunter, Joy Hunter and Paul Hunter, all of Altoona; six sisters: Rebecca Benton, Clara (Bruce) Hostler and Margret Friedenberger all of Altoona, Beverly (Wayne) Snyder of Eastman, Ga., Georgetta Wholaver of Cherry Tree, Madge Keith of Ebensburg and Julie Dillon of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren: Kyle Edge of Fort Lauder Fl., Brandon Barroner, Breanne McCall and Johnathan Grager all of Altoona; two great-grandchildren: Gina Web and Braxstan Barroner; and many nieces, nephews and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Ross Hunter Jr., who was killed in action in Iraq in 2005 and Ronald Hunter; a sister, Kathy Burton; a brother, Norman Donald Hunter; and an infant brother, Harve Thomas.

He was a Vietnam era veteran of the U.S. Army. He served from Feb. 17, 1959 until his May 1, 1973 retirement as a Specialist 5.

Ross enjoyed reading his Bible, listening to church music, spending time with his grandchildren and going out to shop and eat. He loved to spend time with his children, their families and his great-nephews, Ma-lyk and Donovan.

The service, officiated by Chaplin Lew Button, will be private due to the recent COVID-19 recommendations. A private interment will be held at Blair Memorial Park, Altoona.
